we all know the world is going "to Hell in a handbasket".
we see the news. we know what evil humans are capbable of, we can watch genocides unfold before our eyes on CNN.
our collective obsession with celebrity seems innocent by comparison but the following excerpt (an email written to Lainey of laineygossip.com) has chilled me to the bone more than anything on the news lately. because if this is what people are worried about the future of our planet is grim indeed.

"Lainey, I just don’t know what I’m going to tell my daughter when she comes home from school today. Lauren is in grade 10 and we both love RPattz. Wow! It's so bad I almost think it's fake. It's like those girls I overhead in the mall talking about "Robert" as if they knew him. It really has reached a new level of craziness. I can't even watch The Soup anymore, it's so unbelievably depressing to see the crap that is on American TV. There's a difference between checking out a gossip site and being someone who takes the time to write something like that.
